Being China: The Meaning of Deng Xiaoping

The book examines the moral and political philosophy of the People’s Republic of China’s first 21st century leader from an American’s perspective. The book examines the striking similarities of George Washington and Deng Xiaoping’s farewell addresses advising their developing nations. The successes of George Washington and Deng Xiaoping in revolutionary wars and in creating and leading their nations are litmus tests of the character of the American and Chinese people. The book’s thesis is that if contemporary Americans can understand George Washington’s ideals and morality we can understand Deng Xiaoping’s and China’s ideals and discipline.
